A five star resort hidden in a Chinese village - Amanfayun

Sometimes hotels pop up in a location and it's the building that dominates that area. Very rarely do they fit into the landscape, and incorporate the local culture into their style, but today I feature a place I believe does just that. Located twenty minutes drive from Hangzhou (one of the most charming cities in China) there is a property discreetly located in the middle of tea plantations, and surrounded by some of the most famous temples of the city.

In fact, despite the amenities of a 5 star resort, you could be staying in a Chinese country village. There are 42 rooms, suites and villas and no two rooms are identical. The style of the rooms is just what you'd expect from such a resort - minimalist, yet beautifully stylish.  The rooms are huge, and there are little touches that make a difference - fresh fruit each day, and heated stone floors.

As well as the local area, there is also lots to do in the hotel itself. There are several restaurants to choose from, a spa; pool, and library with an extensive array of books and DVDs in both Chinese and English.

This is a beautiful place to stay, but you should also make sure you get out and see the sights, such as the West Lake, and some of the nearby temples. This is a great getaway from the hustle and bustle and concrete of modern China, and comes highly recommended. For more information, the official website can be found here.
