Flashback Friday: Boutique Barbados

Image
Regular visitors to my blog will know that one of my favourite places in the world is Barbados. Some may fine it quite commercialised in comparison to the other Caribbean islands, but when you know where to go, you can still find deserted beaches and enjoy top end restaurants at the same time. If you're looking for a boutique hotel, one of my top tips of would be Lone Star on the West Coast - a restaurant which has rooms that James Bond would be quite happy to stay in! A perfect sightseeing base in Athens

Image
Athens is a city full of colour; smells, sights and sounds - and nowhere will you see more colour than at the very funky Fresh Hotel! The neon touches throughout the hotel brighten up the perfect sightseeing base for your trip. It's situated just ten minutes from Monastiraki metro station in the heart of Athens.  There are 133 rooms, and while small, they have everything you need - high speed internet connection; air con; a small balcony; a tv, and lovely products in the bathroom. Despite being in such a central location, the rooms also very quiet at night. Breakfast is served on the first floor, with everything from a continental breakfast, to a full English to local Greek cakes - yummy. The perfect way to fill up before a busy day exploring everything the city has to offer! One of the high points of the hotel is on the top floor. There is a small pool which provides the perfect place to cool down after a busy day of sightseeing in this bustling city! ...

Travel Photo Friday: Ballooning in Cappadocia

Image
With Valentines day approaching, I decided to feature something romantic! What could be better than a hot air balloon trip - and where better to do that, than Cappadocia. It's in the central Anatolia region - a historical part of Turkey. The region's conical rock formations are known locally as 'fairy chimneys' - and must look stunning from the air. Perhaps you could do this next year and get big brownie points for Valentine's Day from your other half!

Flashback Friday: Deiá delight in Majorca

Image
Majorca - a stunning island, the largest in the Balearic archipelago, and something to suit all tastes. If small, stunning villages is what you're looking for - try Deiá.  This picturesque village on the West coast of Majorca has become a millionaires' hideaway. English poet Robert Graves moved here in 1932 with his mistress, and it shouldn't be missed if you're on the island. There's also a beautiful beach nearby - read more about it here:  A piece of heaven in Majorca .

A chill out castle in Mallorca - Castell Son Claret

Image
If you're looking for somewhere in the sunshine to be seriously pampered, then look no further. If you'd also like a romantic retreat with food from a chef whose restaurant has earned a Michelin star when you're there, then again - this could be just what you're looking for! Castell Son Claret is a beautifully renovated 14th century castle which is now as a 38 room boutique hotel. It's set in a secluded location near the inland village of Es Capdellá by the Tramuntana mountains in west Mallorca. The rooms are beautifully furnished, and have beautiful wood-beamed ceilings and great views of the grounds and surrounding hills. There is also a huge spa with a Turkish bath, while tented treatment rooms can be set up for massages in the gardens - bliss! Madrid chef Fernando Perez Arellano has set up a new home for his fine dining Mallorcan restaurant Zaranda, and the tasting menu is a real treat. There's also a more informal restaurant which serve...

Travel Photo Friday: Dubrovnik

Image
Today's photo was taken in the medieval city of Dubrovnik. The amazing architecture is still largely intact, and makes for stunning photos when it's surrounded by the Mediterranean.  Lovers of the television series 'Game of Thrones' might be interested to know that parts of the city are used as King's Landing! If you'd like to contribute one of your own travel photos, then please get in touch via the contact page  of my blog. Thanks in advance!

Flashback Friday: A different way to stay in Sydney

Image
The image below is probably what springs to mind when the majority of people think of Sydney. The Opera House and Harbour Bridge are iconic sights, and are quite rightly the most photographed places in the city. Those are the sights everyone wants to visit, but what about where to stay when you're in Sydney? I came up with a very different option, and one that it's worth 'flashing back' to - take a look at my blog post about  Sydney under canvas . Have you stayed somewhere unusual that you'd recommend in Sydney? If so, please get in touch via my contacts page to tell me all about it!

Safari under the stars

Image
I wanted to start 2015 with something spectacular, and I definitely believe I've found it. I've heard of a room with a view, but this view is so good it's almost ridiculous! Loisaba Wilderness is a tented bush camp in Laikipia, Kenya on a 150 square kilometre private game ranch. It has stunning views that sweep across the rolling hills towards Mount Kenya and the Mattthew's Mountain range. It's outstandingly beautiful and the accommodation is unbelievable. As well as double, twin and family tents with en-suite bathrooms, you can sleep under the unspoilt African night sky on unique Star Beds. Located outdoors, the hand-crafted beds are on raised platforms with incredible views. This is a perfect honeymoon spot, or if you just want to make your trip more romantic, then you couldn't go wrong with spending a night in the Star Beds.  Accommodation aside, there is plenty to do here from game drives to river rafting, to tracking lions and wild...
