Edinburgh: Europe's leading destination

Edinburgh has beaten London; Paris and Barcelona to the title of Europe's leading Destination in 2012. When I heard this story, I knew I had to mention it on my blog - I am, after all an exceptionally proud 'Edinburger' - as we're known! The prize was given at the World Travel Awards in Portugal - an event described by organisers as the "Oscars of the travel industry".


If you have never visited Edinburgh, then I have to say you really are missing out. I know everyone is proud of their home city, but when I had to move away due to work commitments, I found that I actually appreciated it even more.


It's not only a world class tourist destination due to the fact that it is steeped in history, but it also has a superb all year round atmosphere. It plays host to numerous world-renowned cultural events such as Edinburgh's Hogmanay (the New Year's celebrations) and the Edinburgh Festivals that take place each summer. Whenever you visit, it has something to offer - give it a try........or miss out!

    Its really a great news that Edinburgh won the World Travel Awards, Edinburgh Castle is one of Scotland's most iconic visitor attractions, sits on its own volcanic rock at the top of the Royal Mile.

    I'm not surprised by this at all. I went to Edinburgh a couple of months ago and I'm dying to go back. It's such a beautiful place, there's so much to enjoy from the architectural contrasts and historical monuments to the greenery of Holyrood and just the general atmosphere in itself. I stayed in an apartment in Leith with my family, which is a really cool place with a slightly different atmosphere to the rest of Ed. We had a spot of lunch on the Royal Yacht Britannia, which was nice. I've always been a lover of travel but I often forget how much there is to see in the UK. Will definitely be making another trip there soon!

If you like chicken, and haven't yet tried Piri Piri, I have to break it to you.....you're missing out big time! The dish is traditionally made from Piri Piri peppers which originated in South Africa, and were imported to Portugal from Angola and Mozambique. Ever since I was a little girl, my dad told me "Life is not a dress rehearsal". While it was a phrase that stuck in my mind, it didn't resonate with me until I got a bit older, and realised that he was totally right! I may have found the perfect spot to stay in Marrakech.
